A Little Bit About Me and My Journey//

It's amazing where the Lord's plans will take you! A little over two years ago I was working at an amazing preschool in the beautiful community of Montecito, CA. I loved my job, loved my co-workers, and loved the children and families I was investing in every day. I was working in a community where the average home costs somewhere in the millions and where the families who live there are some of the most generous people you will ever meet. It was a truly wonderful experience, but the Lord had started placing a desire in my heart and had put a plan in place for me to go and serve childen and families who are often overlooked and forgotten. He was also calling me to a journey of faith that would require me to lay it all aside and to leave everything behind to follow Him.  So, on May 31, 2013, I packed my little Honda Civic with as many of my earthly posessions as it could possibly hold and set off acrosss the country to move to a place and join a school that I had never been to, heard of, or seen. I was joining Teach for America, and was committing two years to educating, loving, and serving children and families in Edgecombe County, NC.

The Lord's plans are good and He is faithful! During my two years in North Carolina, the Lord placed people in my life who were exactly who I needed. My third-grade team and school colleagues were so incredibly supportive of me as I navigated through the complexities of working in a Title One school. The Browns and Watsons became my extended families when my own family was 3,000 miles away. My Teach for America friends and experiences with the organization taught me so much about the importance of the movement for educational equity for all children, no matter their background or circumstance. And my students showed me the true depth of God's love, grace, patience, and understanding. It was an incredible two years, both in its blessings and its stuggles, and I am so thankful for it all!

Now the Lord is calling me to another new adventure! This August I will embark onto the mission field of teaching in Tanzania, Africa. I will be volunteering with HOPE International School to teach grade school students living in the city of Moshi. HOPE is a part of Global Effect, a Christian non-profit organization that works to invest in the lives of children and families living in Tanzania. This is the same organization my sister, Melissa, brother- in-law, Brandon, and their children are also a part of in Moshi, Tanzania. They are an amazing family, and I can't wait to live so close to them!

I am very excited for this next step in my life's journey and know that the Lord's faithfulness will guide me over the course of this next year.
